Our Jaipur farm

Our first farm, which we will operate ourselves. We are shortlisting land within an hour of Jaipur now, and every candidate plot is soil- and water-tested before we sign a lease. Semi-arid eastern Rajasthan suits hardy, drought-tolerant fruit, and the cool, sunny rabi season is excellent for vegetables and herbs. Everything will be on drip, with rainwater pits for the monsoon.

Mandarins do best in Rajasthan's wetter Jhalawar belt and in Nagpur. On the region's alkaline soils (typically pH 7.8–8.4) and in Jaipur's dry heat, kagzi lime is the more reliable citrus, so that's what we grow here.

Amla is one of the hardiest fruit trees in India. It handles 46°C summers, light frost and alkaline soil where most fruit trees struggle, which is why ICAR's arid horticulture institute champions it for Rajasthan.

Why no alphonso mango?72

Mango flowers drop in Jaipur's dry spring heat, frost nights scorch young grafts, and the region's alkaline soils (typically pH 7.8–8.4) lock up iron. Our mangoes grow on the Konkan coast and in Malihabad instead.
