Krishnagiri district grows mango on roughly 30,000 hectares, more than anywhere else in Tamil Nadu, and its nurseries and pulp units supply much of South India. Warm, dry winters bring the trees into flower and a hot April sweetens the fruit. This would be our second farm to operate ourselves, after Jaipur: we are scouting land now, and will only lease a plot after soil and water tests, once enough Bengaluru families reserve. Banganapalle's GI belongs to its home belt in Andhra Pradesh, so we sell ours by variety name, not as GI fruit.

Banganapalle wants a frost-free, dry winter to flower, a hot April to sweeten and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Krishnagiri's red loams at about 500 m give it all three, which is why the district is Tamil Nadu's biggest mango grower.
