What happens to your harvest, and when things go wrong.
How harvests are estimated, shared, graded and delivered; how harvest protection works after a documented farm-level failure; and the rules for donations and farm credit.

1. Planning ranges, not promises
Every crop shows four numbers over its life:
- Reference: what published research or official data says a mature, well-managed plant can produce, with the source.
- Planning range: what we plan around for your plants in their early bearing years, on our farm.
- Conservative: what a poor but not disastrous season could look like.
- Actual: what your plants really produced, weighed and published after each harvest.
These figures help you plan. They are not promises of any quantity. Harvests vary with weather, plant age, variety and pests, and some fruit (mango in particular) bears heavily one year and lightly the next. We explain why in Three numbers, not one.
3. Harvest protection
Harvest protection is for when something goes wrong on the farm, not for an ordinary poor season.
When it applies. If a documented farm-level failure leaves your harvest of a crop for a season below 50% of the lower end of that crop’s planning range, harvest protection applies. A farm-level failure is an event on the farm that affects the block your plants are in: for example, a disease or pest outbreak, hail, frost, flooding, fire, or an irrigation, equipment or management failure on our side. It applies from the first season in which the crop’s page shows an expected harvest.
Example: if guava’s planning range is 5–10 kg per plant, protection applies when a documented failure leaves your harvest below 2.5 kg per plant for that season.
What you get. Remedies are in kind only, never cash. Depending on the crop and what’s available, and after talking to you, we’ll provide one or a mix of:
- replacement produce of the same or a comparable crop, from our farms or partner farms;
- farm credit in your harvest wallet; or
- replanting, where plants were lost.
The remedy makes up the shortfall between what you received and the protection level (50% of the lower end of the planning range), valued at the rates in your membership agreement.
How it’s documented. Inspection notes, photos and harvest weights for the affected block are recorded by the farm team and shown in your dashboard. We’ll tell you within 14 days of the end of the harvest season if protection applies, and how we propose to make it good.
When it doesn’t apply. A season within the normal range of variation (including the conservative figure), alternate-bearing “off” years without a documented failure, years before a crop is expected to bear, or produce you chose not to collect or to donate.
4. Plant replacement
If one of your plants dies or is badly damaged, we replace it at no cost in the next suitable planting window. Its plant passport records what happened and links to the replacement. A replacement plant is younger, so it may bear later; where that affects a harvest you were expecting, harvest protection may apply.
5. What you can do with your harvest
- Deliver it to your address, within our delivery zones below.
- Collect it at the farm on a harvest day.
- Swap it for a mixed basket of what’s in season, at that day’s rates.
- Donate it to a partner food bank or charity we name. We’ll send you a note of what was donated; this is a record, not a tax receipt.
- Keep it as farm credit, under the rules below.
Selling produce through UGAANA isn’t offered. If you don’t choose within the notice period we give for a harvest (usually 48 hours for perishables), we’ll hold it where practical, and otherwise convert it to farm credit rather than let it go to waste.
6. Delivery zones
- Jaipur farm: doorstep delivery across Jaipur, usually within 48 hours of picking, or pickup at the farm.
- Partner and pipeline farms (other regions, once they open): durable produce such as mango, citrus, apple and coffee is sent by courier in season, in ventilated packaging. The delivery cost to your city is shown before you commit to that crop.
- Very perishable produce such as strawberries is delivered only to cities near the farm (for Mahabaleshwar, for example, Pune and Mumbai). Elsewhere you can swap it, take a preserved product where we offer one, or keep the value as farm credit.
We’ll agree a delivery slot with you. If nobody is available to receive a delivery, we’ll try once more; perishable produce can’t be held, so after a second missed delivery it’s converted to farm credit at the day’s rate, less the delivery cost.
7. Quality and grading
- Produce is picked at the right maturity for the crop, then sorted and weighed. The weight recorded in your wallet is the packed weight.
- Farm produce isn’t uniform: size, shape and cosmetic marks vary, and that’s normal. Produce that is unfit to eat is removed and not counted towards your harvest.
- Fruit that ripens after picking (such as mango) is sent at the right stage to ripen at home, with guidance on how.
- We will hold the FSSAI registration or licence required for handling and delivering produce before our first delivery.
- If something arrives damaged or spoiled, send us a photo within 24 hours of delivery and we’ll replace it or add the value as farm credit.
8. Farm credit rules
- Farm credit can be used for annual care fees, farm visits and produce from UGAANA.
- It is valued at the rates in your membership agreement or, for swaps, at that day’s rates.
- Credits expire 12 months after they’re issued. We’ll remind you before any credit expires.
- Farm credit is not cash. It can’t be withdrawn, refunded, sold or converted to money, and it earns no interest.
- It can be moved only within your own membership (for example, to a family member on your account) with our agreement.
- Every credit and debit is recorded in an audit log and shown in your harvest wallet.
